Email Aliases
HotPOP users with premium accounts can now add an unlimited number* of aliases to their HotPOP account. Aliases are an effective anti-spam and privacy tool, or can be used for just plain fun! If you have a premium account, click here to manage your aliases. If you are a basic account user, you can upgrade now.
*Up to 50 aliases can be added to an account per day. There is no limit to the total number of active aliases.
Personalized Anti-Spam Rules
HotPOP users with premium accounts can now add a custom spam score header to all messages. Other options include modifying the subject with your own text, and even blocking messages. All rules are based on thresholds that you set to fit your needs. If you have a premium account, click here to activate this feature and set your options. RSS Newsfeed
HotPOP's news page is now available via RSS. RSS is a format for syndication whose popularity is growing quickly. RSS readers are available for every major computer platform. If you would like to find out more about RSS following are some useful links:
The RSS feed is available at http://www.hotpop.com/news.rdf. HotPOP requests you set your reader to poll the file only once per day.
Login History
HotPOP proudly announces a feature we believe is unique amongst all major email providers. All users can now see the date and time of last login for each IP address, by each login method (POP, Web, SMTP, etc). Click here to try it.
Very Important Note! Proper use of this information requires advanced knowledge of the Internet and networking. The information may be misleading and/or confusing to users without this knowledge.
Automatic login
If you select "Remember me at this computer" when you log into the HotPOP website, it will not ask you for a password when you return. Even if you close your browser, sign off your ISP, or restart your computer, the site will remember you. If you want the site to forget, just click the logout link. HotPOP will also ask you for your password if you do not return the site for 30 days or more.
SMTP Authentication
Prior to this feature, the only way to send mail through HotPOP's servers was to log in with POP first. Unfortunately many mail clients try to send mail first, and an error message resulted. Now you can send mail without logging into POP. This feature is very handy when you click on email links in webpages! If your client does not support SMTP Authentication (most do), you can still use POP-Before-SMTP like always.
Very Important Note! SMTP Authentication requires you to use your full email address, not just your username. Look at your updated Client Settings for details.
Improved printing*
When you print a page on HotPOP's website, it now reformats to a simpler layout. This means you will use less paper and ink, and the printouts will be more usable to you. This feature is very handy if you want to print our Terms of Service or Privacy Policy. Your browser should automatically use the special layout when you print, no need to click any special links like many other sites. If you do a "print preview", a feature available in most browsers, you can take a peek at this new feature.
*This only applies to the "Hi-Fi" site, the "Lite" site already prints pretty well.
